I like my flight sims (I have a TM warthog, pedals, etc). And and I like my kerbal space program. A lot of my friends like driving games. A simpit would be awesome.
I have also just moved house, finally bought a place, woohoo. I have not had a TV for 5 years (no room!). Now I have room… room for a projector screen!
I have it in my head that using a simpit with a projector would be super fantabulously awesome.
However, clearly if using a projector I won’t be using monitors. This presents a slight issue, because I’d like if at all possible to use the obutto as a desk replacement for all purposes (work via remote desktop, browsing, etc). But I don’t really want to be wearing out my projector just to log in to work and run some SQL.
Then I saw the R3volution with its articulated acrylic trays that are also drilled for vesa mounting. Could this, perhaps, be a way to have monitors for general desktop use that do not obstruct line of sight to the projector screen?
So, that’s my main query: Does anyone regularly use the articulated arms as monitor mounts? Are the monitors comfortable to use, or are they too low / too far away from line of sight?
I realise that with the separate main monitor stand, it would be possible to move the monitor out of the way only when using the projector. But that seems like it would be really difficult because of cabling, the weight of the stand, etc.
I also wonder if I have the space. I would like to put my two single seat armchairs either side of the obutto to allow more than just one person to comfortably view the projector, but I’m not sure how much space must be left to allow the keyboard tray to swingout, etc.
Here’s some pictures of the room. I can spread things out a bit more to give about 160cm of separation between the arm chairs. Right now my desk is at the back taking up space, with the obutto in place that would disappear, and the sofa can move about 70cm closer to the bench as well.
What do you think… are my ideas at all feasible, or do you think it won’t work (monitors too low, pit too wide, etc)?
