I am very interested in picking up the R3volution for a number of flight/space sim games, such as DCS and Star Citizen. There is one sticking point for me, hence the this post.
I have a genetic retinal disorder which really only becomes a problem with gaming and such when it comes to text. I would be buying this as a home workstation and gaming system and this problem with text is probably quite ironic given that I am a programmer and spend most of my day reading text on monitors. My current home monitor setup is three 23 inch displays which work well for my purposes, but when writing code or surfing the web I tend to need to be within a 10 to 18 inch range of the display in question to be able to read and work comfortably. Now I realize I could quite happily slap some bigger monitors on the R3volution and keep my current resolution and get some more distance out of it, but that is more of a funding project for closer to the end of this year.
So the core of my question, while in a productivity/working environment, would I be able to get the three monitor stands within 12 to 18 inches to comfortably function without also getting in the way of all of the tables and addons that i’d like need with the R3volution?
I also use a HOTAS and i’d prefer to not have to take them on and off if can be helped every time I need to write a bit of code so if that would factor in as a potential problem then let me know! As for getting in and out of the chair, I am both quite flexible and rather thin, so I am not worried about having to work to get in or out of the cockpit if bringing the screens forward would get in the way of that at all.
If the answer simply is go bigger on my screens first to get a more comfortable viewing position with the R3volution then I will probably prioritize that purchase along with a beefier rig over that of the R3volution for now.
Thanks,
Dave
